Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

and Osteopathy

What is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a debilitating condition that affects many people worldwide.  The main symptoms of CFS are feeling extremely tired and unwell and cannot be explained by an underlying medical condition.  The condition usually lasts for at least 6 months and causes disturbance to your work, family and social life dealing with the various physical symptoms.

Some of the symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are:

  • sleep that isn’t restorative
  • muscle or joint pain, headaches
  • problems thinking, forgetfulness or difficulty concentrating
  • flu-like symptoms
  • feeling dizzy or nauseous
  • fast or irregular heartbeats (heart palpitations)

CFS is defined by persistent fatigue that is not alleviated by rest. Feeling too tired to do regular activities or feeling easily exhausted for no apparent reason. While conventional medicine targets symptom management, osteopathy offers a holistic approach by assessing and treating the body’s imbalances, circulation and overall well-being.

Ways an Osteopath can help

  • Enhance circulation and Lymphatic Drainage
  • Reduce Musculoskeletal Tension and Pain
  • Regulate the Nervous System
  • Support the Immune System
  • Address Postural and Structural Imbalances

Our Osteopaths may use a combination of structural and cranial techniques to encourage the body to stimulate the healing response.  Your treatment will involve a combination of joint and soft tissue manipulation, gentle stretching and other osteopathic techniques.

  • Soft Tissue Massage: This technique helps relieve muscle tension and improves circulation.
  • Stretching: Gentle stretching supports flexibility and helps reduce stiffness
  • Functional Techniques: These methods gently restore balance in your joints, promoting relaxation and enhancing the body’s healing response
  • Lymphatic Drainage: This technique encourages lymphatic flow, which can relieve symptoms of fatigue and improve immunity and overall health
  • Emotional Well-Being: The hands-on nature of Osteopathy provides a sense of care and support, which can be particularly comforting for patients dealing with chronic conditions
